Tucked just off Michigan Avenue, the dual-concept restaurant from James Beard Award semifinalist Junior Borges and Austin-based restaurateur Nic Yanes, is a sensory-rich playground of bold flavors, inviting textures, and heartfelt hospitality.
Nic+Junior’s, located at 405 N. Wabash Ave., is equal parts lively bar and intimate tasting room, marking Borges’ first foray into chef-ownership.
“We’re priding ourselves on high hospitality and delicious food,” Borgers said. “We share our passion and vision for restaurant hospitality. I love the city, and I just want Chicago to love us back.”

The venue balances “casual-luxury” with elegant precision. Guests entering through accordion-style windows are greeted by a sleek 53-seat bar offering Italian-accented cocktails and à la carte plates like tagliatelle with pork ragu, chili, and marjoram. Tucked behind the bar is a 32-seat dining room where a refined tasting menu showcases Borges’ Brazilianroots. Think of Iberico Lardo-wrapped tapioca fritters and an A5 Wagyu Picanha plated with black garlic bordelaise and braised hearts of palm.
The contrast isn’t jarring, it’s intentional. “We wanted to create something truly special for Chicago–a place where guests can indulge in both an approachable bar atmosphere and a refined tasting menu under one roof–something fresh and new,” saidYates in a statement.

Beverage director Travis Tober, founder of award-winning bars like Nickel City, brings more than 25 years of cocktail savvy to Nic + Junior’s. His program leans into the restaurant’s global flair, balancing bold spirits with subtler ingredients to match the ever-evolving menu.
Inside, guests find themselves enveloped in understated luxury. Designed by Canales & Co., the restaurant boasts marble countertops, custom wallpaper, and handcrafted ceramics. Brazilian and Italian touches run throughout, from the bespoke martini service to the signature Catupiry and guava dessert, a nod to Brazil’s classic Romeo-and-Juliet pairing.
“We’ve known each other for 12-plus years,” Borges said. “Nic + Junior's is all about blending our culinary backgrounds and delivering an unforgettable experience. It’s not fusion; it’s a celebration of who we are, brought together in a singular, unified vision.”
Nic + Junior’s is now open daily, with reservations available on Tock: Sunday through Thursday from 4 to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m.
