Hotel Essex, a landmark luxury hotel located at 800 S. Michigan Ave, has rebranded as Le Méridien Essex Chicago but will continue to operate independently until officially becoming part of the Marriott Bonvoy family of properties this summer.

The hotel is managed by Oxford Hotels & Resorts, LLC and owned through a joint venture between the company and Quadrum Global.

"We are excited to join forces with Marriott International to marry our mid-century modern landmark Hotel Essex with the internationally-renowned Le Méridien brand," John W. Rutledge, founder, president, and CEO of Oxford Hotels & Resorts, LLC and parent company, Oxford Capital Group, LLC, said in the news release. "We're always looking for ways to optimize the performance and value of our hotels and as leisure and business travel regains momentum this year, and in the years ahead, we felt combining forces with Le Méridien was a prudent, strategic move. We look forward to our property becoming a top choice for Marriott Bonvoy members looking to explore Downtown Chicago and everything our beautiful city has to offer."

The hotel was previously known as Essex Inn and re-opened in 2019 following a multimillion dollar transformation, which involved re-imagining the property's mid-century modern aesthetic for the 21st century. It is part of a mixed-use development that includes the Essex on the Park luxury apartment tower, SX Sky Bar and French restaurant Grant Park Bistro.
