Billionaire "Star Wars" filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson have begun developing their two Chicago luxury condos into a two-story penthouse atop the Park Tower in Streeterville, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune.

The planned duplex penthouse is anticipated to cost a whopping $33.5 million, setting a record as the most expensive completed condo in Chicago's history, according to the Tribune.

The pair reportedly bought the 66th-floor unit of the Park Tower for $11.2 million in 2023 after purchasing the 65th-floor condo in 2015 for $18.75 million. The combined 16,000-square-foot condominium will reportedly surpass the previous record holding property, a $20.56 million condo at the St. Regis Tower, purchased by billionaire German Larrea in 2022.

Scott Fortman from Gibbons, Fortman & Associates is responsible for designing the ambitious project, including the incorporation of two new staircases and various upgrades on the first floor of the penthouse.

Lucas and Hobson have a history with the luxurious Park Tower building. Hobson previously bought a unit on the 48th floor in 2007, and the duo jointly acquired a 26th-floor condo in 2012.

The Real Deal reports that Lucas and Hobson's real estate holdings extend beyond Chicago, to properties in California, New York City, France, and Italy.
