Financial servicer Wells Fargo has announced plans to expand its retail branch network in the Greater Chicago Area with a $175 million commitment, increasing its current footprint of seven branches to at least 30 in the coming years. According to a statement from the company, the expansion will create nearly 200 job opportunities for Chicago and the surrounding areas.
Saul Van Beurden, Wells Fargo CEO of Consumer, Small & Business Banking, expressed excitement about the expansion in Chicago, stating, “Our investment in Chicago branches along with our mobile and online offerings allows us to increase accessibility for our customers. We are committed to Chicago and look forward to creating stronger relationships within the local communities.”
The first of these new branches will open in downtown Chicago in mid-November. Wells Fargo also plans to open branches in underinvested Chicago neighborhoods, such as Bronzeville and Bridgeport. Van Beurden emphasized the importance of serving all communities across the Chicagoland area.
The new branches will be built to meet the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold standards, featuring assisted-service ATMs, floor plans for conversation and consultation, and informative digital messaging displays.
