News outlets are reporting that Illinois Governor JB Pritzker will today order schools througout the state to remain closed for the entire 2020 academic year.

The action would extend the closure of all K-12 schools that the governor first announced on March 13, an order that was originally scheduled to expire on April 7, but has been extended until the end of the month since then.

It also adds to a list of statewide restrictions that have been extended in an effort to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Others include include the ban on in-person dining at restaurants, which was originally announced on March 15; and the stay-at-home order for all residents, which began on March 21.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, according to the Sun-Times, is “fully on board with the move.”
