As a city that takes pride in its culinary prowess, one of the things that has helped Chicago stand out as a top food destination is its emphasis on, and wide variety of, incredible cuisine of all types. From high-end Italian to Eastern European delicacies and much more, there's always something to invigorate the palate in the Windy City. For those with a taste for something south of the border, there's never been a better time to check out a new Mexican restaurant than on Tuesday, Oct. 8 for National Taco Day. Whether you're a regular or just a visitor looking for an appetizing adventure, these top spots will leave your taste buds happy and your stomach in a taco-ma.
Birrieria Zaragoza
Family-owned since its inception, Birrieria Zaragoza began as a passion project by owner John Zaragoza, who originally served top-tier birrieria out of an underground restaurant in his basement, according to the restaurant's website. After moving to a brick-and-mortar location in Archer Heights in 2007, the restaurant became a word-of-mouth sensation known for its famous goat birrieria tacos. The unique meat preparation leverages techniques from Zaragoza’s hometown of La Barca, Mexico, and comes complete with housemade tortillas and scratch-made salsas.
Thanks to booming business, the family recently opened a second location near the north side neighborhood of Uptown, introducing their brand of tacos to a whole new clientele of happy customers.
