A tiki-themed bar has opened in West Town at the site of the former Silver Palms restaurant. Tiki Tiki has taken over the front portion of the location at 768 N. Milwaukee Avenue, according to co-owner Gregg Weinstein.
Closed in 2018, The Silver Palms gained notoriety for its iconic railcar and Three Little Pigs sandwich, an all-time favorite dish of the late celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain. Tiki Tiki plans to repurpose the old railcar as a cocktail lounge. While the owners plan to serve food in the future, the famous Three Little Pigs sandwich is unlikely to make an appearance.
The Matchbox, the next-door bar known for its tight and narrow interior, will remain open, and mostly unchanged.
The first half of the bar is finished and open for patrons daily from 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday. According to Weinstein, the additional railcar bar is still under construction, but should be completed shortly.
