Practice continued Friday ahead of the weekend’s Sail Grand Prix Chicago. It’s the first time this international event has sailed from Chicago and takes place 6/18 and 6/19. “Pit Row” is located at Soldier Field and vessels are lifted via crane into Lake Michigan at Burnham Harbor. Nine identical F50 catamarans will fly over the water while sailing at speeds over 60 mph for the United States Sail Grand Prix at Navy Pier, June 18-19.
Skimming the waters on Chicago’s new “Skyline Stadium” on Lake Michigan between Navy Pier and the Adler Planetarium. SailGP features national teams battling in short, intense races at iconic stadium-style venues across the globe, building to the grand final – and sailing’s top prize of $1 million.
SailGP is one of the fastest emerging sports in the world, featuring national teams comprising the best athletes in the sport representing the United States, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, and Switzerland.
The best viewing spots are from Navy Pier and the surrounding lakefront beaches.
