La'Keia Rawls

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Domestic violence has taken the lives of countless numbers of people. The family and friends of one domestic violence victim continue to keep her legacy strong.

La'Keia Rawls was the victim of domestic violence in 2012. Every year around her birthday a run is held in her honor.

This year the Parkway High School J.R.O.T.C. sponsored the run in La'Keia's honor. La'Keia was a proud member of Bossier High School's R.O.T.C. program.

"We come out every year; this is the 13th year, and we come out every year, and we do the run, and the money that is raised goes to the Salvation Army," said La'Keia Rawls' mother, Victoria Rawls.

La'Keia's mother and sister described her as a people person who loved life.

She was a 2004 graduate of Bossier High School. She was just a fun-loving person, always smiling. She was a track runner, and she was just an all-around person," said Rawls.

Many of the runners have been participating for almost as long as the run has been going on.

"I've done it about ten years, and I do it because it's for a good cause and for an amazing family," said runner Brooklyn Warren.

This year 42 people ran in the race, and $1,300 was raised for the Salvation Army.

"It means a lot because that means everybody gave more than what was asked. It is only $5 to register, so that tells a lot about people and keeping La'Keia's memory alive," said Rawls.

La'Keia would have been 38 on Dec. 11. The run is already being planned again for next year.
