MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Gunfire erupted early Tuesday morning in the Hollywood neighborhood, resulting in two women being shot in what police called a "domestic dispute."

Memphis Police (MPD) said the shooting call came in around 2 a.m. Tuesday on Nedra Avenue off Davis Street.

One woman was rushed to Regional One Health in critical, while another woman was detained and taken to the same hospital in critical condition, police said. MPD said that the second woman's condition was later upgraded to stable.

MPD said that the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a "domestic dispute."

The victim's mother told investigators that her daughter and another woman were arguing before the shooting. She said she heard the suspect say, "You know what I am looking for," before shooting her daughter while she was in her car.

The mother then shot the suspect with her own gun and the suspect drove off toward Nedra Avenue, police said.
