In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Carthage Fire Department responded to a reported ammonia leak at Tyson Foods. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a damaged valve with a significant leak. Crews quickly worked to contain the situation, and by approximately 1:25 AM, the leak was under control.
Employees were expected to be released back to work around 2:00 AM. As an added precaution, the Longview Hazmat Special Operations Unit has been called in to assist with follow-up containment and safety measures.
Fire Chief Giles confirmed that thanks to the quick response of first responders, the situation was handled safely with no reported injuries.
