A New Jersey congressman is calling on federal authorities to address the public on the mysterious drones flying over the state.
"There's been not enough information disclosed to the public from federal law enforcement officials and the agencies who are chiefly responsible for monitoring drone activity," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer.
He said he has written to federal authorities asking them to immediately brief the public on drone activity in the state's skies.
"Just before Thanksgiving when families gathered to spend time with loved ones and unidentified drones began gathering across 10 different counties in New Jersey," said Congressman Gottheimer.
Mystery drones have been reported in 10 counties, including Warren and Hunterdon.
The congressman who is on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence said he has been taking part in briefings with federal authorities.
"Based on the information I have, the briefings I've received to date I am not concerned about any imminent threats to public safety regarding these drones. That's it. I can understand why lots of people in New Jersey are concerned," said Congressman Gottheimer.
Gottheimer was asked several questions about specifics on drone activity, but said he was unable to answer.
Meanwhile the congressman said he is introducing legislation that he said would prevent misuse of drones in general and would support local law enforcement by providing grants for equipment.
"This equipment should equip our law enforcement, who are the best in the world with the resources they need to identify how many drones are out there, where they're coming from and where they're going," said Congressman Gottheimer.
Congressman Gottheimer is encouraging people who see these drones to report them and send any photos or video to the FBI.
