A Douglasville couple was indicted Wednesday after police say they kept a 3-year-old child in a shed with no power or running water.

Sarah Elizabeth Pombert, 34, and Joseph Matthew Turner, 35, each face three counts of second-degree cruelty to children. They are scheduled to be arraigned on Nov. 4.

The couple remained in custody Friday after being denied bond when they were arrested June 2.

According to warrants from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Pombert and Turner “kept a dirty living space” in a shed behind a home on Judge Avenue, just outside of Winston.

Investigators said the couple left the child unsupervised.

The toddler also hadn’t been bathed and was “covered in dirt” when deputies arrived at the scene, the warrants show.

Investigators said the child had open access to drug-related items and sharp objects. Deputies found human and animal feces in the yard where the child played.
