NPSO detention center

NATCHITOCHES, La. -- A disturbance at the LaSalle Corrections Center, formerly the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, on Friday was resolved quickly with minimal injuries, the sheriff's office said in information released Monday morning.

Natchitoches Parish sheriff's deputies responded to a call Friday afternoon about a disturbance involving inmates in the detention center dorm. The facility was immediately placed on lockdown.

As a precaution, special response teams from Rapides, Winn and Jackson parishes joined NPSO SWAT. Through their combined efforts, the teams gained control of the dorm.

A joint investigation is underway to determine what started the disturbance.

Maj. Roger Henson said disturbances like this are not uncommon in correctional facilities across the nation.

"The priority during these situations is the safety of our staff, the offenders, as well as citizens of our community. At no time during the disturbance was there a risk of escape nor was the facility unsecure. We especially want to thank the NPSO, Natchitoches SWAT, Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Winn Correctional Center and Jackson Correctional Center for their quick response and assistance to safely resolve the situation," Henson said.
