With all that is going on in the world, the battle with worry and anxiety affects all of us. How do we get through trying days, when so much bad news is taking place? Jesus asked a significant question for all of us: “Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:27 Worry is a part of life that is a burden for every person. We wonder how we can make sense of things, when so many bad things are happening.
How does a person stay upbeat, at a time when we see others being attacked by those who seek to corrupt? Jesus dealt with this continually, as He ministered to the people around Him. Leaders from the church and the government, worked to bring Him down.
Jesus addressed the need to seek after God’s plans for each person’s life.
“But seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 Life is filled with all kinds of situations and circumstances. Leaders who seek to maim and destroy a person’s integrity, and to soil their reputation, exhibit traits that model evil and destruction. Jesus came to preach peace, and satan uses weak-minded people to do His work.
The leaders around Jesus who sought to destroy Him, showed this kind of behavior. They worked to dethrone Jesus, not realizing that could not happen, because His Throne was not of this world. When it seems that mean-spirited people are ruling the day, take heart, because God is watching. We live in His world.
“Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of Righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of Peace.” Ephesians 6:14-15 Those who seek to divide and conquer, have no defense against the Truth of Jesus. They may look as if they are winning for a time, but that time will come to an end, at some point.
A way to combat evil, is to be a prayer warrior. Live a life that points others to a love that passes all understanding: the Love that God provides.
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:31-32 God’s Love is available to all those who seek Him Make the world a better place, one person at a time. Jesus showed us how to do this, as He modeled His Father’s way of accepting people.
Instead of being overcome by what is wrong with the world, keep your eyes on Jesus. Ask Him to help you love, as He loves you. You will be blessed, when you live to serve Him. He is the Rock, that is unshakeable!
From my heart to yours,
Pastor Dave, First Baptist Church
