Aug. 27, 1926: On August 27, the amendments to the bankruptcy law will become effective, and they are intended to eliminate a number of abuses which are possible under the present statute. There have been so many crooked cases in bankruptcy that congress felt it was necessary to do something in order that there might not be a demand that the whole law be repealed.

July 14, 1966: The state building commission Monday approved construction of five motor vehicle department district headquarters, including a new building in Spooner.

Big fish continue to make news in Spooner and some sizable entries have been brought in to the Corral Bar contest in recent days despite the hot weather.

July 3, 1986: A knife found near the Spooner school last week was probably not used in the June 2 slaying of Shelly Kliman, Spooner Police Captain Roy Schindeldecker said Tuesday. Another knife, found earlier at the Palace Theater after Kliman was stabbed, remains under investigation at the crime lab.

July 13, 2006: The city of Spooner’s Board of Appeals on Wednesday, July 5, approved two variance requests for the Wal-Mart Supercenter store project at the intersection of Cty. Hwy. H and Hwy. 53.

July 14, 2016: Sustained heavy rain thanks to a stationary front that parked itself across northern Wisconsin and glowed red on radar charts for hours left its wake in some flooded basements, washed out shoulders, undermined roads, and a dam that did a disappearing act, taking the Colton Foliage with it.
