Hope & Thrive hosting banquet Oct. 1

GREENEVILLE — Hope & Thrive Academy (HTA) will host its annual Celebration Banquet on Thursday, Oct. 1 at First Presbyterian Church, 600 W. Main St., Morristown. The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the church gym. The event will highlight HTA’s talented students through music and performances.

The gift of confidence is one of the best gifts a person can receive, and HTA helps give confidence to the students it serves. Caleb’s goal for this year was to get a job, and he got one in June. HTA helped him build his resume, complete his application, and prep for the interview. He currently works for a manufacturing plant and is growing and becoming more outgoing!

Tracy Lewis, HTA director, created the program after seeing the need for transitional services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. “After they graduated from high school there were limited opportunities for them to transition into the community,” she said.

Hope & Thrive Academy is a program of Holston Home for Children and is located inside First Presbyterian Church in Morristown. It provides educational opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and assists students in attaining independence, social maturity, and spiritual growth.

HTA’s book club is a way for students to improve their reading skills while also having conversations on the topic they are reading about. The job skills program helps students connect with local businesses and gain employment. Through the academy’s life training and personal finance programs students learn how to live on their own while learning how to save money.

Seats for the banquet, including a catered meal, are free, however, there will be a request for financial support to assist the students. Seating is limited and an RSVP is needed.
