CASTROVILLE, California — A 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old passenger were arrested after leading Monterey County Sheriff's deputies on a vehicle and foot pursuit following reckless driving, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
On December 9, around 11:30 p.m., deputies in the Ocean Mist Parkway area heard squealing tires and a loud engine. They located a vehicle performing burnouts at high speed. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled toward Blackie Road and Merritt Street, continuing onto Highway 183 toward Salinas. The pursuit ended at Maple and Abbott Streets in Salinas after a successful intervention by deputies. Both the driver and passenger fled on foot but were apprehended shortly after. No injuries were reported.
The vehicle's owner was unaware it had been stolen. The juvenile driver was booked into juvenile hall for multiple violations, including vehicle theft, reckless driving, and assault on an officer. Francisco Rodriguez, an 18-year-old from Salinas, was booked into Monterey County Jail for resisting arrest. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office thanked the Salinas Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension.
