In her Junior season for the Francis Marion University Patriots, Kristina Syragakis has had an impact this season. Playing in NCAA Division II, the Vaudreuil-Dorion native has twice been tapped as the Conference Carolinas women’s soccer Offensive Player of the week. The first time was for the week of September 16-22 and the second time was for the week of September 30 to October 6.
The first selection came on the heels of a week where Syragakis scored both goals in Francis Marion’s 2-1 road win over Chowan University on Sept. 21. She recorded six shots, five of which were on target, in 78 minutes of action. It was her fifth match-winning score in her young Patriot career. Earlier in the week, she posted three shots in 87 minutes during a 1-1 road tie at UNC Pembroke.
In the second week the former Kuper Kodiak had a trio of tallies, added a helper and fired off 16 shots in a pair of Patriot wins. In a 4-1 road win at the University of Mount Olive, she scored one goal and assisted on the game winning marker. On the Patriots’ pitch Syragakis scored both goals, including the winning strike with 8:57 left, on a school-record 12 shots with six on goal. That delivered a 2-1 victory over North Greenville University.
Syragakis is third in NCAA Division II in goals scored with a dozen tallies. Her shots on goal average is .593 with 32 of her 55 shots landing on target and has registered four game-winning goals. She has also helped the Patriots to five straight wins and a 10-game unbeaten streak this season.
In only a season-and-a-half at FMU, Syragakis has already climbed to 10th on the program’s career list for goals scored with 25. Syragakis was a first-team All-Conference and second-team All-Region selection in her inaguaral FMU campaign in 2023. n
