Dr. Lester Wayne Johnson

BATON ROUGE, La. - Dr. Lester Wayne Johnson, the vice chancellor of academic affairs at LSU Health Shreveport, has been named interim chancellor and interim dean of the School of Medicine effective May 14. 

Johnson is also a general surgeon with Ochsner LSU Health. He is based in Monroe.

“Dr. Johnson’s longstanding commitment to the LSU Health Shreveport community, coupled with his clinical expertise and administrative leadership, makes him the right person to lead the in this role,” said LSU President William F. Tate IV. “We are confident in his ability to continue advancing LSU Health Shreveport’s excellence in education, research, and patient care.”

Earlier this week, Dr. David Guzick, who has served as chancellor of LSU Health Shreveport since January 2023, resigned from his position. His last day as chancellor is May 15, which is the same day Johnson takes over.
