The Sunray Bobcat varsity football team continues to impress with a 59-41 victory over the Panhandle Panthers Friday, Oct. 25. The game was slated as the Game of the Week as two top 10 teams in all of 2A squared off at Bobcat Stadium.

The game was billed as a huge game for both teams to determine the winner of district 1-2A. Both teams came in scoring in bunches as both defenses were stingy as well, something had to give and the Bobcats showed who the top dog in the district was with a convincing victory.

Quarterback Armando Lujan had a huge night in many ways. Not only did he throw for 409 yards and five touchdowns, he also rewrote the history books, becoming the all-time leader in touchdown passes with 206.This is just one of a few records Lujan has in his sights for 2024. He also ran eight times for 71 yards and two touchdowns, and had a pick six.

Kagan Davis was big once again for Lujan hauling in eight receptions for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Dawson Bennett also had a big night with 13 receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bobcat defense gave up the most points it had in a while, but Panhandle came in with a high octane offense themselves, the game came down to which team could make the key stops when needed, and the Bobcats did just that.

Sunray is proving to be more than a top 10 team in 2A, but possibly the best in Division One and they hope to prove that come December.

The season is not over, Sunray will be back in action next Friday night as they travel to Sanford-Fritch to take on the Eagles at 7 p.m.
