Mary Konola

October 12, 1947 - May 12, 2025

Mary Kay O'Neill Konola, 77, of Helena, MT passed away May 12th. She was with family and friends as she passed peacefully in her sleep.

Mary Kay was very proud of her Irish heritage as well as being from Butte, MT. She attended St. John's grade school and graduated from Girls Central in 1965. She always maintained a loyal friendship with her friends from both grade school and high school. She was also the one that kept both O'Neill and Shea families updated and connected through family news.

After high school her desire for adventure took her first to California and then to Europe. She worked and saved money so she and her friends could travel to Europe. They spent a summer hitchhiking through Europe and were able to visit multiple countries. This was quite an accomplishment for a young woman at the time as she got a first-hand education of the world.

Mary Kay returned to Butte where she met and married Frank "Bucky" Konola. Together they had a son Keith.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice O'Neill, her son, Keith, her brother, Fr. Mike O'Neill, and her brother-in-law, Mike Petrino. She is survived by her granddaughter, Ashley Konola (Arizona), her brother, Gerry and sister-in-law, Virgina O'Neill of Nevada, her sister, Peggy Petrino, her aunt, Benny O'Neill, cousin, Fr. Dan Shea, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be a memorial mass and a celebration of life at Holy Spirit Church in Butte, MT on July 25, 2025. Mary Kay and Keith will be laid to rest at Holy Cross cemetery with her parents. All are invited to a reception at the Church Hall to share our memories.

Though she is no longer with us, Mary Kay's legacy of faith and love will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace, surrounded with loved ones who have passed before her.
