An endangered missing person alert for three young girls from Wenatchee was canceled Monday evening, though police say the investigation remains ongoing.
Wenatchee Police Department Capt. Brian Chance told The Wenatchee World that further details will be released Tuesday morning.
Authorities have not confirmed whether a heavy law enforcement presence at Rock Island Campground is connected to the disappearance of Travis Decker, 32, and his daughters — Olivia, 5; Evelyn, 8; and Paityn, 9 — who were reported missing after Decker failed to return the girls to their mother following a scheduled visitation Friday. The campground is about 18 miles west of Leavenworth.
The Washington State Patrol posted online that the missing person alert was canceled.
According to NCWLIFE, Decker picked up the girls around 5 p.m. May 30 in Wenatchee. He reportedly did not share where he planned to take them. The four were last seen traveling in a white 2017 GMC Sierra with Washington license plate D20165C.
Decker was charged Monday with three counts of first-degree custodial interference for allegedly failing to return his children, according to NCWLIFE.
Search efforts on Monday shifted to Rock Island Campground. The East Cascade SWAT Team responded to the area around 5 p.m. Chelan County Undersheriff Dan Ozment told NCWLIFE the campground was closed as part of an active investigation but declined to provide additional information.
As the search continued, community members gathered at Memorial Park for a vigil Monday night. The event, organized through social media, began at 8:30 p.m. and was intended to bring people together to show support and solidarity.
