SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Thanksgiving holiday travel season is upon us, and at Shreveport Regional Airport, there are about 1,900 people a day arriving or taking off on flights.
Over the next week and a half, AAA estimates 5.84 million Americans will fly domestically for the holiday.
Airport officials say there are strategies you can take to keep your travel rolling along smoothly, including planning for the possibility you might get stranded somewhere if flights get delayed or cancelled.
According to SHV Spokesperson Mark Crawford, “Sometimes bad things happen to good travelers where you get separated from your bag, so we always recommend not putting anything in your checked bag that you may need.”
He continued, “If you're stranded somewhere or your bag doesn't make it, always keep that on your person or in your carryon bag as well."
As of Friday morning, there are still seats available on many flights out of Shreveport Regional Airport, though it'll cost you. For instance, a one-way to Atlanta, GA, the day before Thanksgiving is $509 on American Airlines. The cost is roughly half, $290, if you choose to travel Thanksgiving Day.
