MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis Police officer involved in a crash Wednesday morning that injured an infant ran a red light and was driving on an expired license, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
MPD said the crash happened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday when an officer in an unmarked MPD Charter ran a red light at the intersection of North White Station Road and Walnut Grove Road.
The car the officer hit ran into another car, adding up to three vehicles involved in the crash. An infant in the third car was taken to Le Bonheur in non-critical condition as a precautionary measure, according to police.
Neither the officer nor the other driver involved was injured, but the officer's Dodge Charger was disabled in the crash.
MPD said that the officer was issued a citation for disregarding a red light and having an expired driver's license.
"The officer promptly addressed the matter and now holds a valid driver’s license. An administrative investigation regarding the incident is currently underway," a police spokesperson told FOX13.
