(Fergus Falls, MN)--Minnesota Senate Republicans recently elected their leadership team to guide the caucus during the upcoming 2025-2026 legislative session. State Senator Jordan Rasmusson (R-Fergus Falls) was named assistant Senate Republican leader, while Senator Mark Johnson (R-East Grand Forks) will continue in his role as Senate Republican leader.

In his role as assistant Senate Republican leader, Sen. Rasmusson will guide caucus strategy and work with members to advance key legislative objectives. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in leadership for the Senate Republican Caucus,” Sen. Rasmusson said. My focus will be advocating for commonsense solutions that benefit all Minnesotans—whether through bipartisan compromises or holding Democrats to account.”

Following the 2024 general election, the Minnesota Legislature is facing its tightest margins in history. With two recounts currently taking place, the Minnesota House of Representatives is expected to end in a tie at 67-67 between Democrats and Republicans. Meanwhile, the state Senate remains under Democratic control, holding a narrow majority of 34-33. As a result, Minnesota is once again experiencing a divided government.

“Senator Rasmusson's ability to bridge party lines has proven to be a significant asset for our caucus,” said Sen. Johnson. “His dedication to addressing the challenges in long-term care and Emergency Medical Services demonstrates his commitment to solving difficult issues. We are thankful for his leadership and guidance as we continue our efforts to deliver meaningful results for all Minnesotans.”

The rest of the Senate Republican leadership team will include Senators Julia Coleman (R-Waconia), Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls), Karin Housley (R-Stillwater), John Jasinski (R-Faribault), and Michael Kreun (R-Blaine).

The 2025 legislative session is set to begin on Jan. 14, 2025.
