Nov. 28, 1929: As we draw near to the Thanksgiving time, we are prone to count our blessings one by one and as a National body we enumerate many things we are are thankful for, the following are outstanding: We are mighty thankful that we have in the Constitution of the Universe States a law prohibiting the manufacture, sale, importation, exportation and transportation of alcoholic beverages. It is in the Constitution and is there to stay.
The grim reaper Death has again visited our midst and taken from us one who always been held in high esteem by all who chanced to meet her acquaintance, Mrs. Hattie Elizabeth Trowbridge.
Santa Claus is coming and he will be here Friday between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 5 p.m. so says his radiogram to John O. Moreland, who invited him here in behalf of all the little kiddies of Hayward and vicinity.

Nov. 26, 1964: Deliberate damage to a rural mailbox, by gunfire or otherwise, is a violation of the Postal Laws and and person guilty of such acts are subject to prosecution under Federal Statutes. Each year a number of hunters are arrested for shooting to rural mailboxes. Don’t let this happen to you.
The Sawyer County United of the American Cancer Society announced a Bowl Down Cancer Contest to begin on Monday, Nov. 29 and running through Monday, April 6. Rules and entery blanks will be available at both of our local bowling alleys where support for the Bowl Down Cancer program has been given.
For the third year in a row, the Hayward Civic Club will again sponsor a Christmas-home lighting contest with $25 offered as first prize. A total of $75 will be awarded as in past years.

Nov. 28, 1974: Capitalizing on federal revenue sharing funds allotted them, plus surplus funds, tech County Board of Supervisors passed a budget that calls for somewhat less than half of the total local levy of last year
The Honorable Judge Alvin L. Kelsey will be guest speaker at the eleventh session of the “Introduction to Counseling Alcohols and their Families” course at the Hayward Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, December 4th at 7 p.m.
The Sawyer County Alliance of Taxpayers (SCAT) is currently in a drive to convince the state legislature to remove the sales tax from fuels used in home heating, and to this end, has had printed a number of petitions that the groups hopes to circulate throughout the state.

Nov. 28, 1984: Northern States Power Company (NSP) and the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa officials met last week in Eau Clare to sign and exchange the official documents necessary to carry out the settlement agreement ending a 12-year dispute over relicensing of the Chippewa Foliage project.
The Sawyer County Community Senior Center Inc. began a 90-day drive Wednesday to build an activity center in Hayward for local and visiting senior citizens.
Combining a strong defense with good rebounding and a good floor game, the Hurricane overcame poor shooting to rolling over the visiting Park Falls Cardinals 54-26 Tuesday, Nov. 20.
