MOSCOW — The University of Idaho is introducing three degrees in artificial intelligence starting this fall.

The UI announced Thursday that students will be able to pursue a bachelor’s degree, master of science or master of engineering in AI at the Moscow and Coeur d’Alene campuses.

Exploring AI has been a priority for the university, which plans to incorporate the technology “across every major area of the institution,” UI said in a news release.

The UI says it is the only institution in Idaho conducting AI research through the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot program, which is operated through the National Science Foundation to train educators in AI.

The news release cited a statistic from the U.S. Department of Education that says AI employment opportunities are expected to increase by 17.3% nationwide by 2034.

The university currently offers 14 AI courses covering machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, data science, adversarial machine learning, and computer vision and optimization.
