A massive category 5 hurricane is set to slam Jamaica after devastating parts of the South Carribean on Monday, marking the first major hurricane of a potentially highly active season.

According to the Associated Press, Hurrican Beryl killed at least four people after making landfall in the South Carribean. A hurricane warning has reportedly been issued for Jamaica ahead of the storm, which is expected to hit the island on Wednesday.

Beryl is projected to weaken in strength throughout the day Tuesday but will maintain major hurricane strength as it crosses the Carribean and parts of Mexico later this week, according to the National Hurricane Center.
