The FDA has announced a nationwide recall of coffee products over a potential botulism risk.

The affected products were produced by Wisconsin-based company Snapchill. The recall was prompted by the discovery that Snapchill had not registered its low-acid production process for canned coffee with the FDA in accordance with regulatory mandates. According to the FDA, the company’s production process could lead to the formation of botulinum, the deadly toxin that causes botulism.

The FDA describes botulism as a potentially life-threatening form of food poisoning, with symptoms including dizziness, weakness, double-vision, and difficulty breathing and swallowing. According to the FDA, symptoms can develop between six hours and two weeks after the consumption of food or drink contaminated with botulinum toxin.

According to the FDA, the products were sold by various coffee retailers and distributed online directly through the company. The products were sold under a variety of different brand names and can sizes ranging between 7 to 12 ounces.

No illnesses related to the recalled coffee products have been reported thus far, and Snapchill has not received any reports of botulinum toxin in its products, according to the FDA. The company is reportedly working on obtaining the proper registration for its production process.

The FDA advises consumers to destroy or return the products to the place of purchase. Consumers who purchased the affected products may be eligible for a refund. Coffee products affected by the Recall can be identified by the label “Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC” located beneath the nutrition facts label.
