Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, has announced plans to eventually distribute his estimated $13.9 billion fortune among his more than 100 children. Durov, known as the official father to six children from three relationships, has also sired over 100 offspring across 12 countries through sperm donations, according to the BBC. The 40-year-old tech mogul stated, "They are all my children and will all have the same rights," emphasizing his commitment to fair treatment for all.
Durov has specified that his children will not have access to their inheritance for 30 years, a condition set to foster self-reliance and independence. "I want them to live like normal people, to build themselves up alone, to learn to trust themselves," he told Business Insider. Durov cited the need to allocate his fortune now due to the "risks" involved in his professional work.
Durov, who holds dual citizenship in France and the United Arab Emirates, established Telegram in 2013. The messaging app is celebrated for its focus on privacy and encryption, accumulating over a billion users globally. However, its features have also drawn criticism for allegedly facilitating illegal activities. As reported by People, French authorities charged Durov last year, accusing him of allowing criminal behavior on Telegram. Despite these serious allegations, Durov remains steadfast in denying any wrongdoing, asserting his innocence.
The uncertainty surrounding his legal situation underscores the challenges of balancing privacy-focused technology with public safety. Yet Durov's commitment to his family's future appears unwavering. He aims to ensure his legacy promotes independence and resilience among his children, regardless of the path they choose to follow.
