Shelley Duvall, the iconic actress who starred in films such as "The Shining" and "Nashville," has died at the age of 75.
According to the Associated Press, Duvall passed away in her sleep at her home in Blanco, Texas. Duvall's death was caused by complications of diabetes, as reported by her friend and publicist Gary Springer.
Duvall was a fixture of director Robert Altman's films, with starring roles in "Brewster McCloud," "Thieves Like Us," "Three Women," and "Popeye." Film critic Pauline Kael once referred to her as the "female Buster Keaton" due to her distinct acting style.
Arguably Duvall's most memorable role came when she starred as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining,", alongside Jack Nicholson.
Duvall stepped away from the film industry in the 1990s and largely disappeared from public life. According to the AP, she lived in Texas Hill Country for over 30 years, and her whereabouts remained a mystery to many.
Duvall briefly returned to acting in 2022 with the indie horror "The Forest Hills," which premiered quietly in early 2023. Duvall's contributions to the film industry have solidified her as a cult hero to many, and her memorable performances will undoubtedly continue to be celebrated by fans and colleagues alike for years to come.
