United Airlines is set to introduce a new boarding strategy for passengers with window seats in economy class, beginning on October 26th. Known as WILMA, an acronym for window, middle, and aisle, the plan aims to decrease boarding times for flights. According to CBS News, implementing the WILMA plan has shown to save up to two minutes of boarding time during testing at four domestic locations and one hub.
Window seats will be prioritized, followed by middle and aisle seats, expediting the boarding process and minimizing crowding on the planes. United Airlines noted in an internal memo that the change would be in effect starting next week.
The initiative comes as United Airlines looks to improve its boarding process and overall customer experience, particularly for economy class passengers traveling to and from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.
The WILMA boarding method is projected to streamline boarding, reducing travel time and potentially enhancing overall customer satisfaction. With Chicago being a major hub for United Airlines, the introduction of the WILMA plan is likely to positively impact the experience of many Chicagoans regularly traveling on the airline.
As boarding times play a significant role in overall travel satisfaction, shorter times are expected to lead to improved experiences for economy class passengers. The WILMA strategy is United Airlines' attempt to respond to passenger feedback and enhance the quality of its service, which, in turn, may attract more customers and create a positive reputation for the company.
For Chicago residents and travelers alike, this new boarding method may come as a welcome change to what has previously been criticized as a slow and crowded boarding experience on United Airlines flights. As the WILMA method rolls out next week, travelers can anticipate a speedier and more streamlined boarding experience on their future United Airlines flights.
