Adler Planetarium’s latest sky show Niyah and the Multiverse takes viewers on an afrofuturist journey

Chicago’s Adler Planetarium has announced the release of its newest original sky show, Niyah and the Multiverse, an immersive Afrofuturist film experience. 

Niyah and the Multiverse follows young Niyah and friends on a journey through space time as they explore scientific theories about our universe and the nature of reality. With Niyah as a guide, viewers can uncover the truth behind Bubble Universes, Many Worlds, and Shadow Matter.

The show features captivating motion visuals projected over the planetarium’s dome, providing a 3D immersive experience. With Niyah and the Multiverse, guests can experience the feeling of flying through space and marvel at the beauty of the cosmos.

According to a statement from Adler Planetarium, Niyah and the Multiverse is the culmination of a years-long collaboration between the Adler team and experts in Afrofuturism. The sky show features an original script by Chicago-based writers Taylor Witten and Ytasha Womack, along with local voice actors, artists, and musicians.

Niyah and the Multiverse opens to the public on Saturday, February 17, and marks Adler Planetarium’s first new sky show since 2019. The show will play each day during regular hours and is included as an option with all museum entry packages. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.
