Black Creativity Program Returns to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry

Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) is bringing back its annual Black Creativity program for the 53rd year.

The program kicks off on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 15, with the opening of the Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition.The exhibit, which runs until April 21, showcases the work and achievements of Black and African American artists while encouraging creativity in young children of color.

The Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition features over 150 works from more than 100 different black artists from across the United States. The range of pieces on display includes paintings, drawings, fine art prints, sculpture, mixed media, and photography, with artists of all ages participating, including 22 students ages 14-17.

Black Creativity 2024 programming will include various events and activities such as Black Creativity Family Day on January 15th, allowing the public to get the first look at the Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition. Representatives from Coffee, Hip-Hop, and Mental Health will be there leading activities related to their organization's work and the impact it has on the communities they serve.

Contemporary artist Raven Smith will also be facilitating color psychology activities which will involve guests exploring emotional communication through creative outlets. The day's programming is free with MSI admission.

On February 24th, The Museum of Science and Industry will host the Black Creativity Career Showcase and Meet Her event, which will enable children and families to connect with Black and African American artists, scientists, and engineers to learn about education and career opportunities in science, tech, art, and math.
