Illumination brings holiday magic back to The Morton Arboretum

Chicago’s cherished outdoor holiday light show, Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum, returns for its 13th year starting Saturday, Nov. 15, running through Jan. 3, 2026, according to a press release. This interactive event attracts visitors of all ages to stroll a one-mile, ADA-accessible trail where dazzling lights highlight the Arboretum’s winter landscapes.

Last year, Illumination was nationally recognized by USA TODAY as one of the top 10 “Best Botanical Garden Holiday Lights.”

New features and ticket information

This season introduces four larger-than-life, colorful Vivid Creatures sculptures created by artists Heather BeGaetz and Fez BeGaetz, integrated into 20 immersive light displays.

 Visitors can enjoy unique experiences, including dog-friendly admission nights on three Wednesdays, an adults-only Electric Illumination event featuring live DJs on Fridays, and the sensory-sensitive Illumination Sensory Night on Nov. 18.

Tickets are available online with prices starting at $17.60 for adult members and $22 for nonmembers. The Arboretum offers flexible ticket rebooking for weather concerns and discounts for Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT/LINK) and WIC cardholders through the Museums for All program. Members receive a 20% discount and early access to tickets.

Additional events include IllumiBrew, a 21-plus beer-tasting preview on Nov. 14, and the new IllumiDome private rentals—heated domes that accommodate up to 10 guests and include holiday treats and drinks.

Throughout the trail, a concession tent offers hot chocolate, snacks, and the exclusive Illumination smores hot chocolate served in a limited-edition Morton Arboretum mug.
