Chicago is about to become the epicenter of the Pokémon universe. The Pokémon Company International has announced that the 2027 Pokémon North America International Championships (NAIC) will be held at McCormick Place, bringing one of the world’s premier competitive gaming events to the Windy City. The move marks the first time the prestigious tournament will be hosted in Chicago after spending the past three years in New Orleans.

The annual championship draws thousands of elite players and fans from around the globe who compete across multiple Pokémon titles, including the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), Pokémon video games, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon UNITE. Competitors battle for championship titles, cash prizes, and valuable points toward qualifying for the Pokémon World Championships.
Organizers say the decision to relocate was driven by the event’s explosive growth. Attendance at the North America International Championships has surged in recent years, with fans from dozens of countries participating and spectator passes regularly selling out. Chicago’s central location, world-class convention facilities, and accessibility make it an ideal destination for the tournament’s next chapter.

Beyond the competition itself, visitors can expect a festival-like atmosphere complete with fan activities, merchandise, interactive experiences, and opportunities to connect with fellow Pokémon enthusiasts. The event is anticipated to generate a significant economic boost for Chicago hotels, restaurants, and local businesses while introducing thousands of visitors to the city.
The announcement continues Chicago’s growing reputation as a destination for major gaming and pop culture events. Earlier this year, the city also hosted a record-breaking Pokémon GO Fest, demonstrating the enormous local enthusiasm for the beloved franchise.
While specific dates for the 2027 North America International Championships have not yet been announced, anticipation is already building among competitive players and fans alike. For Chicago, it’s another opportunity to showcase itself on an international stage—and for Pokémon trainers everywhere, it’s a chance to prove they’ve truly “gotta catch ’em all.”
