A dazzling discovery in Botswana has shaken the world of gemology: the largest Historical Diamonds found in over a century has been unearthed in the country's rich mines. This jaw-dropping, fist-sized gem, weighing an astounding 2,492 carats, is not just any diamond—it’s the second-largest ever discovered, trailing only behind the legendary Cullinan Diamond unearthed in 1905.
The magnificent stone, yet to be named, was unveiled to the world at a special ceremony held at the office of Botswana’s President, Mokgweetsi Masisi. The president, visibly moved by the historic moment, was among the first to cradle the half-kilogram wonder in his hands.
“It is overwhelming,” President Masisi exclaimed, his eyes wide with awe. “To witness such a marvel in my lifetime is a privilege.” His astonishment was palpable as he gasped, uttering a heartfelt "wow" before beckoning senior officials to share in the awe-inspiring sight.
While the diamond’s value remains to be determined, its discovery has already etched its place in history. Naseem Lahri, Managing Director of Lucara Diamond Corp., the Canadian company behind the discovery, could hardly contain her pride. “This is history in the making,” she declared. “I am incredibly proud—this is a true gem of Botswana.”
The world now waits with bated breath to learn the fate of this extraordinary stone, a glittering testament to the riches still hidden within Botswana’s earth.
The biggest was the Cullinan Diamond found in 1905, 3,105 carats. It was cut into 105 diamonds of varying sizes with the largest, 530 carats, being presented to Edward VII who reigned over the South African territory at that time. It is now owned by King Charles, the Crown, and is the largest clear-cut diamond in the world.
