The North Shore restaurant scene is about to get even more flavorful with the arrival of The Barn Steakhouse’s second location in downtown Highland Park. After nearly a decade of success in Evanston, famed local restaurateur Amy Morton, daughter of legendary Morton’s The Steakhouse founder Arnie Morton, is bringing her beloved modern steakhouse to the town where she grew up.
The original The Barn Steakhouse in Evanston has earned a reputation as a premier steak destination on Chicago’s North Shore, celebrated for sourcing the finest quality ingredients and Heritage Angus beef with a menu of classic and modern dishes in a warm, inviting setting.
Now that experience is coming to 1900 First Street in Highland Park, transforming the former Little Szechwan space into an elegant restaurant designed to seat around 80 guests. The new location blends the charm of exposed brick, weathered barn wood, and cozy leather with fresh elements that evoke the nostalgia of old supper clubs.

Morton has taken her time finding the right space, wanting the new location to resonate with the community and reflect the elevated dining experience guests expect. In addition to the main dining room, the Highland Park restaurant will include a hidden speakeasy‑style bar called 1898 with its own entrance behind the main space, adding a unique and exclusive touch to the dining experience.
The menu at both Barn locations focuses on prime cuts of beef, like the bone‑in ribeye, alongside standout items such as Za’atar‑roasted chicken and the Grand Central Caviar sandwich, all paired with a curated wine list and creative cocktails to complete the experience.
With strong anticipation building for its early‑2026 opening, The Barn Steakhouse Highland Park promises to be a new favorite for both longtime fans of the Evanston original and food lovers throughout the North Shore.
