Cupid is aiming straight for the waterfront this Valentine’s Day as Navy Pier transforms into Chicago’s most romantic playground. From sparkling fireworks and skyline views to candlelit dinners, cozy igloos and theater nights, the Pier and its partners are spreading the love all month long, culminating in a dazzling Valentine’s-themed fireworks show on Saturday, February 14.

The night’s showstopper arrives at 9 p.m., when Navy Pier’s award-winning fireworks light up the skyline with a Valentine’s twist. Launched from the Lake Stage in Polk Bros Park, the free display offers prime viewing all along the South Dock and serves as the perfect grand finale to a day (or night) of romance by the lake.

For couples craving a bird’s-eye view, the Centennial Wheel delivers romance at nearly 200 feet above the water. Enclosed gondolas offer cozy, 360-degree views of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan, while Valentine’s-themed lighting sets the mood. Those looking to go all out can reserve a VIP Gondola for a private, unforgettable ride, ideal for anniversaries, celebrations, or even popping the question.

At Harry Caray’s Tavern, Valentine’s Day comes with options—three of them, to be exact. Couples can settle into the Indoor Lakefront Lodge Package for cozy cabin vibes without the cold, or opt for a Private Igloo and Curling Package or Private Igloo and Patio Games Package, each featuring heated igloos, private firepits, and lakefront views. Every experience includes a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, access to the full menu and Valentine’s specials, and sweet add-ons like DIY S’mores or the dramatic Breaking Ball Dessert (ring-hiding potential included). Two seating windows are available on February 14: 5–7 p.m. and 7:30–9:30 p.m.
For couples who prefer to celebrate on the water, City Cruises Chicago is hosting Valentine’s Dinner Cruises on Friday, February 13, and Saturday, February 14. Guests can enjoy cocktails, a chef-prepared buffet, and DJ-curated vibes while gliding across Lake Michigan. Climate-controlled interiors and open-air decks offer unbeatable views of the skyline—and a front-row seat to Navy Pier’s Valentine’s fireworks.
Food lovers will find plenty to fall for across the Pier. At Chef Art Smith’s Reunion, a Valentine’s Day prix fixe menu highlights Southern comfort with flair, beginning with a welcome flute of Ruffino Prosecco and ending with the decadent Love Goddess Chocolate Cake. Entrée options include scallops, the chef’s famous fried chicken, or steak frites, with an à la carte menu and the Raspberry Romance cocktail also available.
Over at Lirica, Executive Chef Ricky Amaya brings the heat with a Latin-inspired three-course Valentine’s menu served February 13–15. Highlights include butter-poached Maine lobster with beef medallion, Beef Wellington, smoked rosemary lamb chop, and a heart-shaped wild berry shortcake—all enjoyed in the warm, elevated dining room inside the Sable Hotel.
For a cultural date night, Chicago Shakespeare Theater offers romance with depth. From February 10 through March 8, the Royal Shakespeare Company presents Hamnet, a moving exploration of love, loss, and creativity that makes for a powerful and memorable evening out. Tickets are available for purchase here.
