The American Institute of Architects Chicago (AIA Chicago) has announced plans for Designight 2025, a prestigious event celebrating Chicago's architectural advancements. Set to take place at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park on Thursday, September 18, 2025, this ticketed event welcomes architects, clients, and design enthusiasts. The evening promises to highlight the innovative work of local firms, demonstrating the city’s ongoing leadership in architectural design..
Awards and recognition
According to the press release, the event will feature the fourth annual Lerch Bates People's Choice Awards, decided by the public and organized with the Chicago Architecture Center. The Design Excellence Awards, acknowledging projects from various levels, will be adjudicated by a panel of international experts.
Alongside these, the Roberta Feldman Architecture for Social Justice Award, which the AIA Chicago Foundation oversees, will commend architects addressing social inequities with inventive solutions. Additionally, other recognitions include the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Decarbonization Award, and the Unbuilt Award.

“The 2025 awards submissions show the remarkable breadth and depth of design talent in Chicago. These projects exemplify the innovative spirit that continues to make Chicago a global leader in architecture and design,” said Jen Masengarb, AIA Chicago's Executive Director, in the press release. Finalists will be announced in August, along with a way for the public to submit votes. The award winners will be disclosed during the event.

According to the announcement, noteworthy recipients of the past three years for the AIA's Lifetime Achievement Award include Linda Searl, Cynthia Weese, and Ralph Johnson. This year's recipient will be announced in mid-August, continuing the legacy of honoring architects contributing significantly to the field.
