Fall comes to Lincoln Park Zoo: Oktoberfest and non-alcoholic Oksoberfest

Lincoln Park Zoo will host two adults-only events to ring in the fall later this month: Oktoberfest and its non-alcoholic version, Oksoberfest. Both fan-favorite events will only allow guests ages 21 and up to provide attendees the opportunity to mingle throughout the zoo without children. 

Hosted in partnership with Chicago AF—a non-profit sober community—Oksoberfest will take place on Friday, September 20 from 6-9 p.m. Tickets start at $20 and will allow guests to sample a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, and spirits. Popular brands include national and local options like Athletic Brewing, Lagunitas, Bravas, Untitled Art, Ritual Zero Proof, and Go Brewing. 

No alcohol will be available for purchase during Oksoberfest to ensure the environment remains ideal for those looking to have a sober night out. 

“Last year’s inaugural Oksoberfest at Lincoln Park Zoo was a great success, with Chicago’s vibrant alcohol-free community coming out to celebrate Oktoberfest with no fear of a hangover,” said Vice President of Marketing & Communications Beth Krauss. “I’m proud Lincoln Park Zoo can host this event in partnership again with Chicago AF, the city’s leading non-alcoholic event producer, to make Oksoberfest a new autumn tradition.”

Outside of the ticket price, concessions will be available to purchase, including bratwursts and Bavarian pretzels. Attendees can also enjoy entertainment such as live polka on the Main Mall.

Traditional Oktoberfest at Lincoln Park Zoo

Following the alcohol-free celebration, a traditional Oktoberfest will be held at the zoo on Saturday, September 21 from 6:30-10 p.m. Tickets start at $40 and include samplings of seven 8-ounce beers. Local brewers will be located around the zoo with plenty of German-style beer options to choose from. 

While the booze will certainly be flowing at this beer fest, no additional alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase outside of what’s included in each ticket. Food will be available for purchase—including bratwursts and Bavarian pretzels—as well as non-alcoholic beverages.

Entertainment will also include a polka band. Attendees can also take advantage of yard games and after-hours viewing of the zoo’s gardens and animal habitats.
