Popular craft beer maker Lagunitas has informed employees it will close its Chicago brewery and taproom in North Lawndale, an anonymous employee told WGN News. The brewery and taproom first opened in 2014.

According to a company statement obtained by WGN, 86 employees will be affected by the closure, with some being offered remote roles or the option of relocating to the company's California location.

The decision to close comes as Lagunitas aims to protect its model amid what it calls changing dynamics within the craft beer business, according to WGN. The company reportedly stated it intends to focus on more sustainable brewing practices, ensuring longevity for the brand.

The closure is set to occur on August 1, according to an internal letter obtained by WGN News, but Lagunitas has maintained it remains committed to its Chicago market.
