Gateway Green raises money for the beautification of Chicago

Texas hold ‘em poker tournament

Chicago Gateway Green® hosted its annual "Gaming for Green®" charity event celebrating its 16th year. The event occurred at Galleria Marchetti among their beautiful lush gardens and raised approximately $95,000.

Attendees participated in a Texas hold 'em poker tournament and casino night. All proceeds raised from the event benefit the Chicago Gateway Green®. This not-for-profit, public-private partnership has a single purpose, to keep Chicago green. The organization supports the beautification of Chicago through landscape enhancement, litter and graffiti removal, and the installation of public works of art.

Guests were competing to win over $20,000 in prizes, and the top prize included a $10,000 seat at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. The big winners of the evening were Jeff Arcilla (first place), Ferencs Rigo (second place), and Jorge Garza (third place).

Founded by Donald J. DePorter in 1986, Gateway Green has removed over 1.5 million pounds of litter and planted over 4,000 trees, 80,000 shrubs, and 130,000 perennials since its creation. Gateway Green's latest project is to build a butterfly garden at the outbound ramp of the Dan Ryan at 35th Street. This new habitat will include a variety of plants to support the monarch butterflies.
