Chicago Bulls fans across the Windy City had a little something extra to celebrate this Mother's Day as it was announced the team would receive the fourth pick in this year's NBA draft.
The lottery, which determines where each team will select in the upcoming draft, aired at 2 p.m. on Sunday and originally had the Bulls predicted to pick ninth based on their finish in the league this past season. Thus, the fourth pick represents a welcome bit of good fortune for an organization that badly needed some as they enter another period of rebuilding.
The NBA lottery is structured such that each organization receives a certain number of chances based on previous records, with the weakest teams receiving the best odds for the top picks. Coming into the draft, the Bulls had a roughly 20% chance of selecting in the top four, which represented just the ninth-best odds of any team eligible.

The draft is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, June 23, and Wednesday, June 24, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. Central Time both nights, according to the NBA’s official website.
In the meantime, the Bulls front office will find itself deep in deliberation as they consider which player to take with the coveted pick. The luck continues as many industry insiders, such as The Athletic, highlight four standout players in this year's draft class, BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, Kansas’s Darryn Peterson, Duke’s Cameron Boozer, & North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson, meaning Bulls fans will be hoping their team could be in line to add a future superstar to the ranks.

This draft will be the first for new executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Bryson Graham, who joins from the Atlanta Hawks and takes over for Arturas Karnisovas, who was let go from the position after a number of disappointing seasons, including 4 straight without playoffs.
Regardless of who the Bulls select with the fourth pick, it will represent the start of a new era that both team personnel and fans will hope ushers in a new period of success for the franchise.
