Chicago Fire FC is set to significantly enhance the city's skyline with its new soccer stadium, planned for the South Loop. Unveiled recently, the stadium is slated to be located on Roosevelt Road along the Chicago River, the team announced on its website, as part of the ambitious "The 78" development project.
The stadium—with a capacity of 22,000 seats, according to the announcement—promises to be a remarkable addition to the area. It was designed by acclaimed architecture firm Gensler, which is known for its dedication to creating spaces that enhance the match day experience, to set "a new standard for the fan and hospitality experience," says Kirk Funkhouser, Principal-in-Charge at Gensler in the team’s press release.
Joe Mansueto, owner of Chicago Fire, expressed his affection for the city, stating in the announcement, "I love this city and its architecture. This stadium is adding to Chicago's iconic skyline, so I want it to look timeless." This desire guided the modern yet timeless design approach.

A multi-purpose venue
Beyond soccer matches, the proposed stadium is equipped to host a variety of events, including concerts and community gatherings, the announcement states. This multipurpose usage positions it as a competitive venue alongside local favorites like Wintrust Arena and the United Center.
According to the team’s press release, Fire FC owner Joe Mansueto's commitment to the project includes a private investment of $650 million, accelerating the long-envisioned "The 78" development, which will eventually encompass additional residential and commercial infrastructure.
