The Chicago Loop Alliance is expanding its ambassador program for the busy summer season, ensuring the Loop stays safe and clean during NASCAR, the Democratic National Convention, and other city events.
Beginning this week, additional ambassadors will patrol the central Loop from Dearborn to Canal and Ida B. Wells to Wacker. According to a statement from the organization, ambassadors will patrol the Loop five days a week during afternoons and evenings. State Street ambassadors will patrol the corridor seven days a week.
Chicago Loop Alliance ambassadors will provide directions, greet and engage the public, perform business check-ins, observe and report disorderly conduct, provide information on wayfinding for those shopping, dining, and exploring, and assist individuals needing social services. Ambassadors are unarmed and trained in de-escalation tactics, deterring unwanted behavior and illegal activity in the local community.
“Chicago Loop Alliance’s ambassador program successfully showcases community-centric tactics that support neighborhood vitality," said Chicago Department of Planning and Development Commissioner Ciere Boatright. "The program will also help prepare for the influx of visitors to Lollapalooza, NASCAR, and the Democratic National Convention."
