The CTA and Metra transit systems will offer free rides this New Year's Eve, providing affordable transportation and promoting safe travel for Chicagoans this holiday.

Free rides on CTA trains and buses will run between 10 p.m. Sunday and 4 a.m. Monday, according to a press release from the agency. This year's promotion is in partnership with Miller Lite.

“We are always happy to provide free rides for our customers as they celebrate New Year’s Eve with relatives and friends,” CTA President Dorval Carter Jr. said in a statement. “We extend our gratitude for Miller Lite as they continue to sponsor the free rides program every year.”

Riders can skip tapping their Ventra cards or personal contactless bank cards, phones, or watches while boarding buses or passing through turnstile gates at train stations. No refunds will be offered to customers who pay for rides during this promotion.

Metra will also provide free rides on its trains for revelers after 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve. The complimentary trips will be available on trains to and from downtown Chicago, as reported by the agency.

In some cases, the agency will hold the last departure train until after the celebrations conclude. These trains will leave between 1:15 a.m. and 1:25 a.m., depending on the line. With these free transportation options, there is no excuse not to enjoy a safe and fun New Year's Eve in Chicago.
