Humboldt Park Beach to reopen this summer after 4-year hiatus

Chicago’s Humboldt Park is home to one of the city’s only inland beaches, and this summer the inner city oasis is reopening after a four year hiatus.

According to an announcement from the Chicago Park District, Humboldt Park Beach will reopen on June 17, along with the opening of all other outdoor public pools in Chicago. The beach previously closed in 2020 due to Covid restrictions and a lifeguard shortage.

In 2023, the Parks District launched its “Your Perfect Summer Job” campaign which sought to recruit lifeguards from around the city. According to the organization’s statement, the program was a huge success, drawing in hundreds of new lifeguards for the 2024 season and making the reopening of the Humboldt Park Beach possible.

“We are very excited to welcome back Humboldt Park and neighboring communities to Chicago’s only inland beach,” said Rosa Escareño, Chicago Park District Superintendent & CEO.

“Due in large part to the success of our seven-month long ‘Your Perfect Summer Job’ recruitment campaign, which yielded a great response from lifeguards that make staffing Humboldt Park Beach possible, we can finally confidently say that the lifeguard shortage is behind us, and our beaches and pools will be fully staffed and open for swimming all summer long.”

Beginning June 17, lifeguards will be on duty every day at Humboldt Park Beach from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Beach access is free and open to the public. Learn more information and plan your visit by visiting the Chicago Park District official site.
