O'Hare International Airport has been crowned “Best Airport in North America” for the 20th consecutive year by luxury travel magazine Global Traveler, according to an announcement by the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA).

Global Traveler awards that honor each year, by collecting votes from more than 20,000 readers. The award symbolizes excellence in traveler accommodations, including customer service, amenities, and overall comfort.

O'Hare International Airport is recognized globally for its expansive route network, modern design, and state-of-the-art amenities. The year 2023 has been an important one for the airport, which  has welcomed several exciting developments under the O’Hare 21 modernization project.

In January 2023, O’Hare hosted the grand opening of its renovated Terminal 5. The four-year, billion-dollar project increased the terminal’s capacity by 25%, reducing delays and promoting efficiency. Passenger amenity space was also increased by 75% and the building space was increased by 350,000 square feet.

In October, O’Hare debuted an expansive art installment in the renovated Terminal 5, featuring works by 20 local artists. The multi-million dollar public art commission is a collaboration between the CDA and Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE).

O’Hare will undergo additional renovations in the coming years as part of O’Hare 21, with the construction of its new Global Terminal, improvements to its existing gates, and runway expansions.

"Chicagoans pride ourselves in making everyone feel like they are at home", said Mayor Brandon Johnson in a statement, “To be given this award by Global Traveler’s readers for 20 straight years is an honor, and it proves yet again that Chicago is second to none when it comes to the courtesy and service we provide to residents and visitors.”
